The most useful approach to use in critically analyzing The Old Man and Sea by Ernest Hemmingway is Santiago as Christ figure. There are many similarities between Santisgo and Christ. First, Santiago has a faithful disciple, Manolin and Christ had the Apostles. Second, in OMS Santiago is injured with his hands. This is similar to the wounds in Christ's hands. Third, Santiago experienced endurance of superhuman pain and suffering alone. Christ had the similar experience. Therefore, in the Old Man and the Sea Santiago imply Christ figure from the Bible.

The main characters in Old Man and the Sea are Santiago, a fisherman and Manolin, a boy who helps him.
Begin your description of Santiago with this second sentence: Three adjectives that describe Santiago are old, poor, lonely.
First, Santiago is old. It is easy to read from the whole text and title. Second, he is poor. That is shown that "his shirt had been patched so many times that it was like the sail." ( from Page.18, Line 22-23.) Third, he is lonely because his wife has already died and he lives by himself.
Two adjectives that describe Manolin are young and kind. I feel Manolin is kind because he has usually taken care of Santiago, for example "The boy took the old army blanket off the bed and spread it over the back of the chair and over the old man's shoulders."(from Page10,Line16)

How do "good" college teachers present information?
According to Meiland, a "good" college teachers present information in the following way. In general, they present some information, in the sense of "what is currently believed." Yet they also spend much time talking about the basis on which this information is currently believed. And they make their students discuss and examine the basis of current. In college, students is needed to acquire ability to treat materials as beliefs or conclusions that have been reached on the basis of investigations rather than as unchanging fact.
I agree with this opinion. In high school, our studying is memorizing facts and the opinions of the instructors. But in our life there is a many situation that we have to find out answers by ourselves, such as getting a job with which company. We should acquire new types of intellectual work for own future.
